Hello Men’s Christian League Golfers for 2016 1

Man PointingWelcome to  the new look of our MCGL website.  I want everyone to know that hopefully we are only about 6-7 weeks away from some nice weather so we can possible hit the links. That is if Mother Nature cooperates. League Director-Ray Ressler.

2015 League Winner TrophyRay Ressler & Gary Kwapik came from 9 points behind in the final week of play to capture the 2015 League Championship by a single point.  Here is the proudly displayed trophy for the 2015 season winners. Our Final Position round was played in some nice conditions for the last night of the league. The ‘A’ Flight 1st place team was Andre Viger & Ken Huyghe against 2nd place Ray Ressler & Gary Kwapik. Ray & Gary trailed by 9 points heading into the last round of the season and were pitted against a very good team that had won the league 3 out of the last four seasons. Defending champions Brian & Dominic fell out of contention several weeks before the end of the season, so they were not able to have a chance at repeating as league champions. Ray Ressler was matched up against Ken Huyghe and Gary Kwapik was matched up against Andre Viger. This turned out to be one of two matches that decided who would win the ‘A’ flight division. Ray got off to a good start in his round, with back to back bogeys before nailing back to back birdies on 3 & 4 and notching a par on #5. Ken made bogeys on his first two holes and got into a groove with pars on 3, 4 & 5. Ray and Ken made bogeys on #6 and both parred the par three 7th.  At this point in the match, Ray had taken a 10 to 6 lead. Ken made it close with the par on #9 as Ray posted a bogey. Ken came late and needed a par on #1 to take enough points to take 1st but fell short. With the bogey on #1, Ray’s bogey (with a stroke) finished off the match with 12 points shooting a very nice (37). Ken finished with a nice (40). Gary and Andre are both very accomplished golfers and this match came down to two holes, #6 & #9. These holes cost Andre a chance for a possible tie that would have given he and Ken the Championship. Andre drew the first points with a great par on the #1 handicap hole. The par 5 second hole cost Andre a bogey to which Gary answered with a par to win the hole. Both players split the next two holes as both players made pars on 3 & 4. The completion of the match changed as Gary nailed a par on the 6th hole with Andre posting a double. The 7th & 8th hole saw both players make pars to split the holes. The final hole, #9 saw Andre with a chance to tie up the round by making a par, which  did not materialize. With the bogey by Andre and par by Gary, the point totals went to Gary. Gary takes 11 points and Andre gets 7. Ray and Gary take a combined total of 23 points to overcome a 9 point deficit and win the 2015 ‘A’ Flight Championship by to win by a point. Gary shoots a (38) as Andre comes in with a (41). Very nice rounds by all four players who in my book,  are all champions. Honorable mention goes to Nate Hood & Trevor Vallus who take (25) points and almost vaulted into first place. They fell short of 2nd by a point and 2 points out of first. Trevor posted another great round with a 39. Nate finished with a 47. Congratulations to all.

The ‘B’ Flight had an equally exciting match between 1st Place (Tim Weigel & Matt Zu2015 League Winner Trophyber) who had a 7 point lead over 2nd Place (Bill Marsack & Ron Corfield). Bill Marsack got off to a 4-0 start in points as he took the first two holes of the match. Matt nailed a par on #3 with Bill making a bogey that gave Matt 2 points to cut the lead in half. Bill made a par on #4 as Matt made the bogey and Bill again went ahead by 4 points. The players split the next three holes, both making pars on #5, bogeys on 6 and pars on 7. The final two holes found Matt making back to back doubles as Bill posted a par on 8 and bogey on 9 to take 13 points in his match. Bill shoots a (43) with Matt coming in with a (48). Ron was matched up against Tim and this turned out to be Ron’s best round of the season, and could not have come at a better time. Ron took the first hole and lost the second hole to keep the match even. Then Ron put together two very good holes, posting a bogey on 3 & par on 4 to take 4 point lead. The players split hole #5 and then Ron nailed a bogey on #6 to take a 6 point lead in the match. The players split the last three holes, giving Ron 12 points to 6 points for Tim. Bill and Ron took a whopping 25 points to overtake Matt & Tim and take the Championship in the ‘B’ Flight. Ron posts a very nice (54) & Tim finished with a (57). Congratulations to Bill & Ron, 2015 ‘B’ Flight Champions. Honorable mention goes to ‘Coach’ Jim Loughead and Erv Rock who missed taking 2nd place by a point. They finish in 3rd place as both had some nice rounds to finish off the season. Jim posted a (52) taking 13 points and Erv finished with (54) taking 10 points. Nice finish gentlemen.
