Men’s Christian Golf League – Final Weekly Update 09/05/2024. Week 16.

Week 16: Summary for the night: 09/05/2024

The weather was perfect and the course was in very nice shape. With the drier conditions, the golf balls were running for the extra distance. The battle for first place was on for in both flights. The ‘A’ Flight had three teams that had a chance to finish at the top. Team A2 (Andre & Ray), Team A3 (Bill & Kirk) and Team A1 (Dan & John). Andre and Ray were in first place with a 6 point lead over Bill & Kirk and 7 point lead over Dan & John. With John on the injured list, broken hand, Dan was pretty much on his own in the last few weeks. And Dan continued to shoot well. He turned in a great final round, posting a (34), two under par. He unfortunate got bushwhacked by Doug Busam, who posted a great 3 over par (39). Dan and John fell short and finish in third place in the league standings that kept them from repeating for the third time.  The match ups were Andre and Ray  vs Bill & Kirk. Dan & John were up against Doug & Dave. Unfortunately, Dave Benson has been relocated to the South Carolina for his work and has missed the last five weeks of play. Andre and Ray had their hands full with Bill & Kirk. The match was going in the favor of Bill & Kirk from the first hole till midway through the round. Bill had taken a 7 to 1 lead over Ray and Kirk had a 6-2 lead over Andre. With Kirk and Bill in control, things suddenly took a different turn from the 5th hole and on. Andre fought back taking four of the next 5 holes, taking 9 points to win his match 11 to 7 for Kirk. Meanwhile, Ray was fighting back as well, taking hole #5 and then tying Bill on the next three holes and winning the final hole to assure he and Andre of first place in the league. Even with the loss to Bill, 10-8, Ray took enough points to help his team to victory in the league. He and Andre took 19 points to win the league, Bill and Kirk 17 points. It was a hard fought battle by all four players. Kirk and Bill hold on to second place. Congrats to both teams finishing at the top.

The ‘B’ Flight battle had Team B5 (Jeff was absent and Jay Barnes subbed for him with Jason) playing Team B1 (Chris & Brad) and B2 (Dan & Nate -sub Trevor) playing against (Ernie & Steve). Jeff and Jason had a four point lead over Dan & Nate. Dan and Nate needed to take 5 points more than Jason & Jay in order to vault them into first place. Dan and Trevor both had outstanding rounds but Dan had to give up 6 handicap strokes and Trevor 3 and had their hands full against Steve and Ernie. Ernie shot a 47 to take 8 points and Steve posted a 55 to take 8 points as well. Steve nailed a birdie on hole number 4. Steve and Ernie finish in last place. Dan posted a very nice (42) and could only muster 10 points and Trevor shot a very nice (41) and was only able to take 10 points as well. This meant that Jason and sub Jay would only need to take 17 points to assure them of a first place finish. Jason did not have his best round as he posted a (48) and split points against Brad who shot a nice round of (46). Jay would be the deciding factor as he had to take at least 8 points to secure the first place win for Jeff and Jason. Jay posted a (53) against Chris who shot a 52. The difference being 3 handicap strokes for Jay that pushed his point total to 11 over Chris and secured the win for Jason and Jeff. Nate and Dan finished second place. The final match was between Mike and Angel playing against Wayne and Bill. Bill posted a nice (46) and Dad Wayne shot a (51). Wayne and Bill take 10 points each and Mike shot a very nice round posting a 44 while Angel posted a (52). They take 16 points and remain in 4th place as Wayne and Bill remain in 5th.

Our outing was on the 21st of September at Bruce Hills Golf Course. Here are the results on the teams and how they finished.

Team Andre, Ray, David & Al win the scramble by having the best score on the third hardest handicap hole. They posted a birdie on Hole #8 where as Team Jeff, Jason, Dan & Tom posted a par.
